SHIP HISTORY – USS RENAISSANCE TOUR

The USS Renaissance is a Sovereign-class was introduced during the early 2370s, and was, at the time, the most advanced starship design in the fleet, though not as large as the Galaxy-class starship.

The Sovereign-class’s first major engagements came in 2373 when the USS Enterprise saw action in the Borg incursion into Sector 001 and was instrumental in the destruction of the attacking cube.

Nearly seven hundred meters in length, the design of the Sovereign-class consisted of two hull sections: a saucer-shaped primary hull and a secondary hull which mounted two warp nacelles.

DEFENSE CAPABILITIES OF THE SOVEREIGN-CLASS INCLUDE

  • Deflector Shields. The USS Renaissance is also equipped with a cloaking device.

PHYSICAL ARRANGEMENT

  • Approximately 700meters in length ( smaller than the Galaxy Class ships).
  • A primary and a secondary hull section.
  • Secondary hull-mounted 2 warp nacelles.
  • Variability in the number of decks (23-29)

TACTICAL SYSTEMS

  • Newly developed for the Sovereign Class ships are quantum torpedoes
  • Photon torpedoes
  • Multiple phaser banks and arrays (7 dorsal – primary hull – one extending around the saucer section, 6 smaller aft – above main shuttle bay, 4 ventral arrays on primary hull surround the starboard and port ventral sides of the saucer section, 1 array is along the ventral section of engineering, 1 array runs perpendicular to the hull , 4 arrays are found along the trailing edges of the warp nacelle pylons)
  • Main torpedo launcher is found on the ventral portion of the saucer along with a twin-tube launcher – all located forward and aft beneath the secondary hull, 3 tube launchers are found on the dorsal saucer section and 2 on the secondary hull (aft facing – above and below secondary hull shuttle bay).

INTERIOR DESIGN

BASIC LAYOUT

  • Upper decks – command section and living areas
  • Lower decks – main engineering and fuel supplies
  • Deck numbering ascended from top to bottom per tradition.
  • On top of the saucer section was Deck 1 – main bridge, observation lounge, and ready room.
  • Deck 2 is comprised of crew quarters, officer’s mess hall.
  • Decks 3-9 are comprised of officer quarters, forward and aft viewing lounges, science labs, main shuttle bay, conduits for the optical data network, main computer cor.
  • Decks 10-14 are comprised of the primary hull, forward and aft cargo bays (Decks 10-11), phaser systems ( Deck 11), stellar cartography (Deck 11), sensors and the secondary navigational deflector (Deck 12), Deck 13 primarily housed the deuterium fuel tanks, main engineering, EPS power taps, central matter/antimatter reaction chamber, support labs, and engineering computer core ( Decks 14-18), Engineering sections are primarily found on Deck 14, Decks 15-18 comprise the main navigational deflector array and the auxiliary bridge/ battle bridge, Deck 16 also houses the controls for the Captain’s yacht.
  • An Astrometrics lab was also linked to stellar cartography.

COMMAND AND CONTROL SYSTEMS

The computer systems are bio-neural gel pack-based and are found in 2 main computer cores. The primary is located below the main bridge on Decks 6-8. The secondary core is located in engineering alongside environmental control on Decks 15-17.

  • Primary operational control of ship’s systems
  • Supervision of mission operations and coordination of departmental activities
  • Central area provided seating and informational displays for the Captain and 2 officers, with the Captain’s chair raised to the surrounding level of the tactical and operations stations. The 2 officer’s chairs were reequipped with programmable consoles.
  • Fore of the Command area – Conn Officer, facing the main viewer.
  • Portside of the Command area- Operations Officer, facing the main viewscreen.
  • Viewscreen – centrally located at the front of the bridge.
  • Aft and to the left of the command area – Elevated platform for tactical and security consoles/stations
  • To the right of the Captain / Behind tactical – Missions Operations
  • Starboard walls – sciences consoles
  • Aft walls- master systems display similar to one in engineering (monitoring of ship’s overall operations, could  limit flight control), Engineering console (warp fields and engine output data displays)
  • 2 Turbo lifts and an emergency ladder to the lower decks
  • Direct access to the observation lounge ( aft of the bridge) and Captain’s Ready Room.

READY ROOM

  • An office and a secondary private cabin to the commanding officer’s private quarters.
  • Located on the starboard side of the main bridge on Deck 1
  • Work/rest area for the Captain – with quick access to the bridge if need be
  • Acted as a meeting room
  • In a corner behind the desk – a sonic shower/bathroom

PROPULSION SYSTEMS

  • 2 warp nacelles, each with multiple pairs of warp coils.
  • Maximum warp -8
  • 2 impulse engines located at the aft of the saucer section
  • Main engineering contained the controls for the warp and impulse drives.
  • Entryway – 2 large blast doors on each deck ( Decks 15-16) – easily secured for security concerns or emergencies
  • Deck 16 – the main deck – houses an upper-level gantry that surrounds the warp core stack with numerous control consoles that can also be utilized to emulate the command controls of the bridge
  • Master systems display – monitored all key systems
  • Display for the health of the warp propulsion system
  • The Deuterium tanks are placed above the warp core
  • Antimatter storage pods  – surround the base of the warp core
  • 2 tanks of plasma coolant are placed on either side of the warp core
  • Main power transfer conduits feed off the warp reaction chamber to main engineering and the warp nacelles.
  • Numerous panels and ladders leading to the Jeffries tubes
  • Force Field system surrounds the warp reactor.
  • Warp core ejection system

TRANSPORTER SYSTEMS

  • 4 transporter rooms
  • Site to site transporter capabilities
  • Console stood across from the transporter platform
  • Operation access: Transporter room console, tactical station, engineering stations ( both on the main bridge)

  • Deck 17 – large sickbay for primary care

  • Emergency Medical Hologram
  • The counsellor’s office is next to the main sickbay

CREW QUARTERS

  • Modular in design – allows an area to become larger/smaller at any time
  • Located on upper and lower areas of the saucer section
  • Quarters for senior  officers and VIPs were larger compared to standard crew quarters
  • Officer’s quarters contain the personal work area, couch, replicator, dining area, bedroom, bathroom

AUXILIARY SPACECRAFT SYSTEMS

  • Located at the dorsal stern of the primary hull
  • Main shuttle bay takes up the majority of the aft section of Decks 6-9
  • Main shuttle bay can accommodate runabouts and several shuttlecraft
  • The secondary shuttle bay is located at the far aft section of the engineering hull.

ESCAPE PODS

  • Equipped with numerous escape pods to hold the crew complement
  • Located throughout the ship’s primary and secondary hulls
  • 2 rows are along the dorsal side of the command saucer and 2 rows are along the ventral side
  • Additional rows line each side of the engineering hull
  • Equipped with heat shields for atmospheric entry and landing if a landing were to be possible.
