Emergency Crew Meeting:
An emergency crew meeting was held via ZOOM on Tuesday, September 27, 2022.
In attendance were the Commander of Starfleet International, Fleet Admiral Steven Parmley, Region 1 Regional Coordinator, Brigadier Philip Cox, VADM Trisha Tunis, General Edward Tunis III – and other Starfleet International friends who came to support the crew of the USS Nomad.
This meeting was called to address the malicious acts perpetrated against our crew by the former Captain. As was discussed at our meeting, while we could keep the name “Nomad” (this is our right according to the SFI legal team), this could cause confusion for those wishing to join us on our journey. As well, we have no desire to be compared to the rogue vessel which now also bears the name “Nomad”.
This blip on our radar has prompted a small course correction – one that will take us in a slightly different direction. However, we are STARFLEET. The name of our ship does not define us – it is our actions and our reaction to adversity which shows the galaxy who we are as a crew. With this in mind, a naming contest has been initiated! All members have been invited to contribute ideas via a form, and we will select a name and have this ratified by SFI. This name change was seen as a positive action by our crew, and we look forward to the creative process of rebranding our chapter.

Cadets:
A Star Trek: A Prodigy Colouring Challenge was issued to all younger Cadets, and several submissions were received. (It should be noted that an extension was given!) Certificates have been prepared and will be sent out this week. Winners will be announced on the Nomad website.

USS Nomad Newsletter:
A submission form for the newsletter has been created so that crew can submit materials and articles. This will remain on the agenda as a standing item. We have started to receive articles, and the aim is to produce an October newsletter…just in time for Halloween. See the Nomad Newsletter page here.
Alliance with Montreal Klingons (KAG):
Commander Mitson and I met with Brigadier D’Gor sutai, the CO IKV Rising Phoenix and CO Rising Sun Fleet and his XO, Maryse. It was a fruitful meeting, and we have set plans in motion which will serve both crews/organizations. Website & Social Media Platforms:
Commander Mitson has been hard at work making changes to our website. All senior officers have submitted avatars and a short bio and this makes for great reading! Several other pages have also been overhauled as we move forward with our chapter. Our public Facebook page now has 919 followers, and there is much activity on a daily basis.
Recruitment/Retention:
We gained a new member this month – and this Crewman has already completed her OTS and OCC. She is happily involved in the crew chat and is attending events. Commander Mitson has been contacting members to ensure they renew their memberships prior to the deadline. Recruitment efforts are continuing.
Canadian Walk for Veterans 2022:
The USS Nomad supported the Canadian Walk for Veterans on September 24 & 25. We donated a total of $75 to this worthy cause. Pictures of members in uniform were posted on social media, and we received a personal note of thanks and a shout-out from the head of the organization.
Future Charity Work:
Ideas and suggestions for future charity work were shared during our meeting, and this is to remain on meeting agendas as a standing item. Our focus from now until December will be on food banks and preparing for the December “Toys for Tots” challenge. See past charitable events here.
Events and Challenges:
Saturday night social hours continue on the Nomad, and we have had good attendance this month! We are pleased to report that our friends from KAG have also started to attend our events, along with others from the region. This has led to lively conversations and good-natured Starfleet versus Klingon “debates”! Our standing invitation to take part in the Thursday night games with the USS Sandwich has also been well attended by the Nomad crew, others in Region 13 and SFI members from several different regions. It is wonderful to spend an hour or so having fun with our fellow SFI’ers. Many crew took part in the Reading Challenge (hosted by the USS Volaris) – we did very well in the July/August challenge. We will continue to take part in this initiative, and we thank Captain O’Neill for organizing this! Nomad members continue to take part in the Step Challenge (hosted by Starfleet Medical).
